It's on its way to a plumber
Keep your phone where you'll hear it, because your job request has gone to one plumbing company serving your area.
- 1The call or text comes from the company's own number, which may not look familiar. We can't control when it comes. If your phone stays quiet for one business day, treat the request as unmatched and go to the license lookup below.
- 2Before agreeing to any work, ask for the license number and search it on CSLB's Check a License page, where the license status is shown. Ask what the call-out fee covers, too, and get the price in writing.
- 3Reply STOP to any text and the texts end; to stop us sharing your details, use the Do Not Sell or Share page.
If you smell gas at any point, leave the house, and from outside call emergency services and then your gas utility.
Before the plumber gets there
- Empty the cabinet or clear the space around the heater or drain so the plumber can get at it.
- Find your main water shutoff so you can show it, and if you can't find it, say so on the call.
- Jot down what you can see: where the water is, how long it's been going on and what you've already tried.
- For a water heater, have its age and fuel (gas or electric) ready; you'll find them on the label on the tank.
- Once you have the license number, search it on the CSLB lookup.
