Plumbing in St. Petersburg
A City of St. Petersburg notice from September 2026 says that, because of severe drought and a treatment-plant upgrade, some customers may see more hardness deposits in filters and occasional rust-colored water. The city began adding a blended orthophosphate and polyphosphate treatment on Tuesday, September 8. Hardness, meaning calcium and magnesium, isn't a contaminant or health concern, the notice says. Tampa Bay Water is the regional supplier. The fee sheet dates to 10/1/2017.
The city still links that PDF as its permitting fee schedule. Fees follow the total construction value of all permits applied for: $50.00 where valuation doesn't exceed $1,000, then $7.00 per $1,000 for single-family homes and duplexes. The sheet's service permits line lists hot water heater changeouts among the residential items priced at $65.00. Electronic plan review has run through the online Building & Permitting portal since November 1, 2023.
The MSC Building, 1 4th St. N., takes calls at 727-893-7231. The ePlan help desk is 727-893-7230. The city is assessing service line materials citywide and says homes built after 1987 can be assumed lead-free. Unknown lines will be inspected visually. Here 55.8% of housing units fall in the 1950-1979 bracket (Census). The city's permit page names the Pinellas County Licensing Board as the place to check a contractor's license.
